Domestic Water Supply
Overview of Domestic Water Supply Systems
Domestic water supply systems deliver potable water to residential properties through organized plumbing networks. These systems connect to municipal lines, private wells, or treated surface water sources, distributing water at optimal pressure to all fixtures. Key components include intake pipes, storage tanks, pressure pumps, and distribution lines that ensure uninterrupted supply for drinking, cooking, bathing, and cleaning. Modern systems incorporate backflow prevention devices and filtration units to maintain water purity from source to tap. At Ruban X, we design solutions that balance water conservation with household demand, adhering to IS 1172 standards for residential plumbing.
Water Sources and Intake Infrastructure
Residential properties typically receive water from three primary sources. Municipal supplies deliver treated water through underground pipelines, requiring a direct connection to the main line with a metered control valve. Well water systems utilize submersible pumps to extract groundwater, necessitating depth-specific pump selection and sediment filtration. Surface water from lakes or rivers demands pre-treatment with sand filters and chlorination before distribution. The intake pipeline – whether PVC, CPVC, or copper – must withstand local soil conditions and water chemistry. We install master shutoff valves at the entry point and pressure regulators to maintain 40-60 psi throughout the network.
Distribution Network Design
The distribution system employs a trunk-and-branch pipe layout with 20-25mm diameter pipes for single-family homes. Our designs feature:
- Dual-line systems separating hot (insulated) and cold water lines
- Balanced pressure zones using gravity tanks or hydro-pneumatic pumps
- Strategic valve placement for isolated section repairs
- Anti-hammer arrestors to prevent pipe damage from pressure surges
Storage and Pressure Management
Overhead tanks (500-2000L capacity) and underground sumps form the core of water storage systems. We install food-grade plastic or concrete tanks with tight-sealing lids to prevent contamination. Automatic level controllers manage pump operations, while centrifugal pumps maintain consistent pressure. For high-rises
